Maximize Your Success By Controlling Your Mind

As I mentioned before, having success with weight loss is about controlling your emotions. We over eat and eat the wrong things for so many reasons

  • Anxiety
  • Boredom
  • Stress
  • Worrying
  • Nerves

These are just a few and I know I made bad decisions for all of those reasons.

The problem is when you know what you’re supposed to do and you don’t do it or you know you’re not supposed to eat something but you do anyway. You say fuck it and shove a handful of chips or cookies in your face.

You lie to yourself and you let yourself off the hook. Ask me how I know……

You say’ “it’s ok, I was good yesterday, I tracked my macros and stayed within my limits.” What happened yesterday doesn’t matter, not even if you were bad yesterday.

You can only take yesterday’s mistake and make sure it doesn’t happen again or take yesterday’s win and use it for inspiration to do it again today. Because once you get a momentum going and your seeing progress, you’ll want to keep going.

But don’t be fooled by that. We all have those demons that want to derail our efforts. Those demons can succeed if you don’t know how to deal with them.

Just look at all the people who made such great progress only to go back to old habits and undo all that hard work faster than you could ever imagine possible.

You have to start with being aware of what and why your doing something. Once you identify that then you can address the causes and deal with them.

Pay attention to what you’re doing and start making small changes. Those small changes add up and result in good habits. Now go get started.

Are You Drinking Enough Water?

We hear it all the time. “Make sure you drink enough water!”

When I made the commitment to losing weight and getting into shape, I started studying all of the things I need to do to maximize my success while doing it the right way and making sure I don’t get sick or hurt in the process. Let me tell you, I wish I had known these things years earlier!

Before I get into how much water you should drink every day, let’s look into the benefits of drinking water.

Benefits of drinking water

  1. Critical for delivering oxygen throughout the body
  2. Joint lubrication
  3. Regulation of body temperature
  4. Improved thinking and brain function
  5. Waste removal
  6. Reduce hunger pangs
  7. Improved immune system
  8. Weight loss
  9. Improved digestion
  10. Increased energy

These are just a few of the MANY reasons to make sure you get enough water each and every day.

But how much water should you drink each day? 8oz? 24oz? 60oz?

How about 120oz.? That’s right. A gallon of water a day. I know it sounds difficult and it is. Hey, no one ever said getting healthy and losing weight was going to be easy. No, it won’t be easy but I can promise you one thing. It will be worth it!

The biggest obstacle that you’ll overcome when drinking a gallon of water a day is that you’ll be spending a lot more time in the bathroom. This is a good thing actually! Using the bathroom is how our bodies get rid of waste and toxins.

I know frequent bathroom breaks can be extremely difficult, especially if you drive for a living. I drive a school bus so believe me, I know! In the mornings I get 2 bathroom breaks spaced about an hour apart between my 3 schools after leaving the yard at 5:55 am. So timing my water intake is critical.

It’s just part of your plan. Remember I said the first of the 3P’s is having a Plan? If you don’t know about the 3P’s then make sure to check out the home page to see what it’s all about.

In the afternoon I have to wait about two and a half hours after leaving the yard. I only have 2 schools in the afternoon but no time between them. It’s also important to get your water in as early as possible each day because if you wait till later in the evening you’ll be up a few times throughout the night hitting the bathroom!

Again, planning is critical, as well as timing. Eventually, you’ll figure out what works for you. This brings me to my next step. Persistence! If you don’t stick to it every day you won’t get the full benefits and you won’t see how much better it will make you feel.

Which of course brings us to the final “P.” Patience. Give it time. You won’t start to feel better at the end of the first day of drinking a gallon of water.

Remember, Our bodies are mostly water. Keeping hydrated is critical.

There was a Star Trek The Next Generation episode where an alien referred to humans as “Ugly. Ugly. Giant bags of mostly water. You can see the clip below.

We all know there are tons of reasons to drink plenty of water.

What have I personally noticed when drinking my gallon of water a day? Besides obviously using the bathroom a lot more I notice I feel overall better. I don’t get dry mouth. Digestion is better. Bowel function is much better. And I sleep better.

One thing that can help with the bathroom issue is to sweat! If you are working out regularly, then you’ll sweat a lot of the water out so make sure you drink before working out.

When I’m sweating doing my walks or exercising the bathroom runs are less frequent, so make sure you’re working out and sweating!

Why Have Bariatric Surgery?

If you’re here either you’re thinking of having bariatric surgery, someone is recommending you get bariatric surgery, or maybe you had it already and you find yourself struggling.

Either way, I can help you sort it all out and help you achieve maximum success!

First, let’s look at the “why.” If you think you can just “have the surgery and lose weight”, you might as well forget it. There’s no magic fix for weight loss. No pill, powder, or shake is going to “melt the pounds” away.

Bariatric surgery is no different. It’s just a tool, and if used incorrectly, it won’t work.

I hope you see by now that I’m not going to sugarcoat anything. I’m going to give you the hard truth. The truth that no one else wants to tell you. I do this because I truly want you to succeed. If I tell you anything else then I’ll only be doing you a disservice.

Why won’t anyone else tell you the hard truth?

Simple. Then they won’t have anything to sell you. Companies make huge fortunes selling people “cures” and “fixes” that will never work. They prey on your hopes and desperation. It’s like selling dreams for cash.

You will still have to do all the same things to lose weight even if you decide to have the surgery. You’ll have to make better food choices, take control of your portion sizes, and exercise. And when you get down to your target weight, you’ll have to maintain that weight. You can’t go back to old habits or else you’ll gain all the weight back plus even more.

So then why have the surgery? Surgery can help accelerate the process. You may be in a situation where you need to get the weight off as fast as possible.

I’m not trying to encourage or discourage you from having surgery. That’s a decision only you can make with the advice of your doctor.

But let’s face it, there’s a bigger issue here. The majority of us overeat or eat the wrong things due to an emotional problem. That’s at least my personal experience. Yes, I live with this battle too. It’s not easy, but it’s manageable. You just have to build your mental toughness and learn how to control that voice that tells you it’s ok to eat half a pack of cookies.

Did you ever watch the show “My Six Hundred Pound Life?” If you watched a few episodes, you’ll know what I mean. Every one of the people the show follows is in a dire situation. They all seem to think “if I could only get the surgery then I’ll be ok.” They finally get an appointment with the surgeon. He gives them specific instructions to lose weight before the surgery. How many of them actually do it? Save for one or two exceptions, none.

There are two reasons for losing weight before having surgery. One is the less you weigh, the safer the surgery will be. It also shrinks your liver and makes the procedure easier. I don’t know about you, but if someone is operating on me, I want it to be as easy as possible for them.

The second reason is to see if the patient will follow the program. If they won’t do it from the beginning then it’s less likely that they’ll follow through afterward.

Achieving success with weight loss is the same as achieving success in any other aspect of your life. You have to want it bad enough. It requires being determined.

There’s obviously a lot more to it and we’ll go into more detail in coming articles.

No matter what I teach you or what experiences I share it won’t me shit if you don’t do the work. If you want your life to change whether it’s losing weight, making more money or getting that dream job, you have to change your thinking and actions first. Don’t worry, I’ll guide you all the way.

It all starts here. I’ve got your back.

See you soon, Frank

Welcome to The Bariatric Journey!

Thank you for checking out The Bariatric Journey website. This is still a work in progress and I’ll be constantly adding valuable content for you!

I created this site to help you maximize your weight loss with or without bariatric surgery. To help you separate the myths from the facts.

My goal is to help you improve all aspects of your life, starting with your health. Let’s face it, I don’t care how much money you have, how many friends you have, how many followers, etc. None of that matters if you don’t have your health.

If you’re here, you most likely want to lose weight and are considering bariatric surgery. Maybe you already had surgery and now are struggling. It’s not uncommon to hit a plateau where the weight stops coming off.

I’m going to touch on each of these topics in future articles. I want to be sure you fully understand that there’s no quick fix. No pill, powder, shake, or other “miracle” food is going to make you lose weight without putting in the effort.

Losing weight can seem impossible. It’s not easy, but it’s not that hard either. You’ll need a plan and I’m going to help you make one. A plan won’t mean jack sh*t off you don’t follow that plan, without exception and without compromise.
